Capabilities

Everything you need — in one platform

Managed FreeRADIUS

We run the RADIUS servers, patches, backups and HA. You get the endpoint + shared secret.

PPPoE / HS / MAC / IP

Every auth method FreeRADIUS supports — plus EAP, TLS and MSCHAPv2.

CoA / Disconnect

Plan changes, top-ups and reactivations apply mid-session via RFC 3576 CoA packets.

Billing wired in

Invoices, dunning, mobile-money and cards — with payment webhooks that flip RADIUS attributes automatically.

Any NAS vendor

MikroTik, Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, ZTE, Cambium, Ubiquiti, pfSense — anything speaking standard RADIUS.

Accounting & reporting

Session logs, quota usage, top talkers and NAT audit trails — queryable and exportable.

Attribute editor

Set check + reply attributes per plan or per subscriber, without editing raw config files.

Realm + proxy

Multi-realm routing for wholesale, reseller and roaming — configured through the UI.

One-click migration

Import your existing users, groups and NAS entries. Run BillFi RADIUS in parallel until you cut over.

How it works

Up and running in a weekend

01
Import

Bring your users, groups, huntgroups and attributes — CSV or direct DB dump.

02
Add NAS

Register your MikroTik / Cisco / Huawei NAS entries and shared secrets.

03
Point auth

Update your NAS's RADIUS servers to our endpoint. Test with a session.

04
Bill on top

Turn on invoicing — payments now trigger CoA and unlock service.

FAQ

Answers, before you ask

Can I use FreeRADIUS with billing software?

Yes — FreeRADIUS is the industry-standard AAA server, and BillFi ships it managed. You get RADIUS auth + accounting wired to invoicing, without running any RADIUS servers yourself.

What happens to my existing FreeRADIUS setup?

We import your users, groups, NAS entries and check/reply attributes into BillFi's managed FreeRADIUS. You keep the same behaviour with less ops work — or run in dual mode during migration.

Does BillFi support RADIUS CoA (change of authorization)?

Yes. Plan upgrades, quota top-ups and payment-triggered reactivations send RADIUS CoA / disconnect packets, so changes apply mid-session without a subscriber-visible drop.

Which NAS vendors work with your FreeRADIUS?

Anything that speaks RFC 2865 / 2866: MikroTik, Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, ZTE, Cambium, Ubiquiti, pfSense, OpenWrt — plus every OLT vendor with a BNG in front.

Is the RADIUS server highly available?

Yes — active-active across multiple regions with automatic failover. Auth latency stays under 20ms globally, and RADIUS accounting is durable-written before we ACK.

Does BillFi store RADIUS accounting for usage-based billing?

Yes — every Acct-Start, Interim-Update and Acct-Stop is stored and rolled up per subscriber, per plan, per day. Usage-based plans (data caps, FUP throttling, overage billing) run off this data.

Can I run EAP / MSCHAPv2 / PEAP for enterprise WiFi?

Yes — the managed FreeRADIUS supports PAP, CHAP, MSCHAPv2, PEAP, EAP-TLS and EAP-TTLS. Great for enterprise WPA2-Enterprise WiFi as well as consumer PPPoE.

How do I point my NAS at BillFi's RADIUS?

Add BillFi's RADIUS endpoint and shared secret to your NAS as the auth + accounting server. Standard ports 1812 / 1813 (UDP). We provide per-vendor how-tos for MikroTik, Cisco, Huawei and ZTE.

Does BillFi log failed RADIUS auths for troubleshooting?

Yes — every reject with the reason (bad password, expired plan, walled-garden, NAS not authorized) is logged and searchable in the admin UI. Cuts subscriber-side debugging to seconds.

Can I bring my own FreeRADIUS if I want to self-host?

Yes — Enterprise customers can self-host FreeRADIUS on their own VMs, with BillFi as the control plane. We provide the SQL schema, dictionaries and sync connectors.
